We'll Take Manhattan

During Christmas break with nothing to do, I decided to watch the Doctor Who marathon  (I really must thank tumblr for introducing me to lots of things, Doctor Who included). And as you may know (or not know), the character of Amy Pond is played by the beautiful Karen Gillan. Ah Karen, with her fiery red hair and lovely porcelain skin, this dolly-faced girl looks more like a modern day Jane Asher. Nevertheless, she was chosen to play the ultimate 60's model , Jean Shrimpton, in the BBC movie We'll Take Manhattan. And while I don't really think Karen (even though she dyed her ginger locks) looks like Jean,  the film managed to capture that aura of 1962, when the world was on the brink of a cultural revolution. Plus the clothes and Aneurin Barnard (who plays David Bailey) are just fabulous.

The rest of Jean Shrimpton's 1962 Manhattan photoshoot taken by Bailey. I think it's safe to say that it  launched both of their careers and  was the inspiration for the movie.

And of course the real Jean Shrimpton and David Bailey.

  1. Stumbled across your blog whilst searching for some David Bailey photographs. You have a beautiful collection of photographs. The 60's was a beautiful time. I enjoyed your other posts on Miles Kane, Arctic Monkeys and The Beatles too. Great style and classic imagery. I'll also be checking out 'We'll Take Manhatten'. I didn't even know about it.

    Thanks!
